Hungry for inspiration, a single mother grabbed a notebook. She carried it wherever she went, asking people she admired for their ultimate recommendations: the books, the music, and the films that
shaped their lives. Collecting their lists became a project in itself, and as the notebook filled up the writers seized upon the other lists, discussing, debating and remembering— it became a forum of its own. Now it’s a “blist!”
The hope of the Magpie List is that you’ll find it interesting and fun, controversial and influential, a stimulating resource and starting point for your own continuing education. By using the links within each list, readers should be able to learn about and collect one another’s treasures.
A portion of all proceeds benefit The Magpie Foundation, which seeks to support literacy charities.
